The nature of the location of South Ribble and its population means there is an extensive and diverse workforce available to employers in the area. Placed between the universities of Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster and Central Lancashire, there is an abundant supply of graduates. Other higher education establishments such as Runshaw College, Preston College and Edge Hill in Ormskirk provide a wealth of skilled people.

The region has a long history within the automotive and aerospace industries; the skilled and flexible workforce has now also adapted to other industries such as food production. This, together with the consistently low unemployment rates, proves the local workforce is resilient and hard-working.
